Default V'ger

So 34 years later Voyager 1 and 2 are still out there in deep space and they are still working.
Slash article

V'ger 1 has gone 119 AU (An AU is the distance from the sun to earth) or around 11 billion miles.

a little crude number crunching yields that it takes about 16 and a half minutes for light from the Sun to get to V'ger.

So in 34 years, V'ger has traveled 0.00188 light years.

At that rate, the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, would be over 10,000 years away. ( from wiki)

Probably gonna need to pack a lunch.

Has anyone ever called you a geek, Bolt? Just wondering. Glad to get this info, though. Just the other day someone was asking me how many AUs Vger had made around the sun. Glad I don't have to look it up. j/k btw

It is still sending back data. I also read this morning that the scientists may not actually know when it has left our solar system (solar bubble).
(okay, nerd alert) But if I see Persis Khambatta appear and start talking funny, I'm running for the hills.

I couldn't help myself at the geek thing but I really do find this quite interesting. The first thing I thought (nerd/geek alert) was about Persis Khambatta talking about Veejer. No one that I know besides a few folks here would even know what that meant.

well now that you bring it up, it may have been suggested that I may have some geek tendencies...
If I recall correctly, I think the comment was something along the lines of " God you are such a F&^%ing Geek!!"

so two things,
the first is, in the linked article they think they have stagnation zone.
The second is, I am truly amazed that they are still working after all this time in very cold deep space.
Heck, my watch battery is dead after a few years.
I am curious at what the sun looks like from way out there.
How bright in the sky is it?
is there enough light to power the Voyager from it's photovolaic array?

That was her claim to fame here, okay she was in Nighthawks too, but sadly she passed away in the late 90s.
Lt. Ilea, I believe was her name. Wow, am I a nerdo or what.

You get extra credit nerdiniss for using nerdo. I mean, who says nerdo? That wasn't a typo was it?

Thanks for making me laugh again.

Bolt, I'm glad you took my comments in the spirit they were intended. Ken, NERDO, realllly? Thanks Patty. I did find all the information in this thread interesting. I seem to remember that Persis died way before her time. Very sad. She was an incredibly beautiful woman.
