Default Vintage Newbie

Hi All - I'm very thankful to have found a forum here with a more, ahh... "mature" audience. I just turned 40 in August and have just in the past couple of years started collecting cars and working on setting up a car related business/hobby/tax deduction.

We have one of the early Yr. 2000 S2000's - I've read some posts that suggest that the 9000 RPM redline is unique? In any event I need to do some more research and would welcome any pointers to good resources on the differences between models, AP1, AP2, etc....

Anyway, mine is a bone stock low miles weekend driver that was purchased new by my wonderful father in law who passed away last year. My wife and I were married in this car, well OK, not actually "in" the car, but we did drive it away from the church...

Also, thanks to a wonderful Honda loving wife I am hoping to get a S2000 CR and use it for what seems to be it's intended purpose of amateur competition. I'd be interested to know if anyone else out there intends to collect the "bookend" versions of the S2000 or get a club racer and go racing? Also, I've read differing accounts of what will be available with the CR, will I have color choices beyond blue and yellow? What does everyone think of the blue? I like it but it also seems a bit "smurfy" for a 40 year old man. I'm thinking that maybe I should color match the two cars and go with black if it will be available...any thoughts?

Anyway, I look forward to participating in the forum.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom and welcome to Vintage! There are lots of threads in S2000 Talk about the differences between the AP1 and AP2 cars, and also a thread stickied at the top of that forum about the CR. But I'm sure lots of peeps here will chime in, too.

It's great to have you posting in Vintage, Tom -- from MN. Welcome, and here's your badge.

We were able to see the CR out in Torrance last week. Lots of pics of it in the homecoming picture threads.

That one was blue, but I've seen web postings of several colors, including NFR. My impression is that it is available in all of the US colors. But the number of cars will be limited, so you may have to get in line soon to get one. I'm wondering how much excess markup will be added over MSRP by greedy dealers.

Bookends -- that sounds good!

Thanks to all, looks like you have figured out I am in lovely (6 months of convertible weather) MN.

I have already found some great info about the differences between AP1 and AP2 and plenty of commentary, as well as a little useful info about the CR. Glad to hear it is going to be available in all colors, although I wonder if the "special" black and yellow interior will be the same regardless of exterior color???

I have a good relationship with my local Honda dealer that goes back many years and I will be buying this one from the same guy that sold my current car (one of the first S2000's in MN) to my father in law many years ago, so I am confident I'll get as good of a deal as one can hope to get as an early buyer of a limited edition...

Welcome TMini from MI. Love your comments about blue being "smurfy". Some consider it to be the fastest color and quote 'Blue by You' as their motto but believe me they are only looking for the next resting place! (I got in before you did Granny).
Blue seems to be the color for all the REALLY OLD vintage members. (That should get me in trouble) I KNOW that Rio is the Fastest, best, most perfect color.

Damn!!! I wish I could get some of that stuff you guys have been smoking. Sounds like good stuff. Everyone knows yellow IS the fastest color.

Sorry you guys are all wrong. SS is the fastest color. It is a well known fact that silver is hard to see, there is a reason for that, dont blink, you will miss me.
