It took over and hour and a half to vote this morning. The wait wasn't due to unusually high voter turnout, but a crazy voting procedure that made voters go through line twice. Everyone was in good spirits despite the wait and the rain.

I prefer to track election news on the Command Post website.

 

At one point in time I was registered in 4 different locations throughout the state (due to moves during the off-cycle). If I had so chosen, I could have voted 4 times on election day. I am sure that this circumstance is repeated in other locales with people who may not be as honest in their voting as I am.

And I agree ROb, the requirements should not be arbitrarily applied. One size fits all.

 

Well, my parents went to vote at 10 AM and the wait was about 30 minutes. But they got to go to the head of the line. So there are a few advantages to being o-l-d.

 

Charlie is still my friend even though he listens to Rush.

VERY OFF TOPIC, but I need to say it.
And he is a good friend. I called him yesterday with a emergency from a childhood friend. It seems that her husband had been rushed to the hospital with liver failure. A call to Charlie and he and Michelle jumped in to help navigate a very difficult transplant system. We don't agree on politics, but friends are still friends!

I haven't been yet but my officemates who went before work said they were waiting in line for at least 90 minutes just to get into the booths. Nobody seemed to mind and the mood was light and cordial. One Maryland county is expecting/predicting a 90% turnout.

 

^ That's an amazing turnout...I've been hearing 75%, which is way above even the most optimistic predictions. Wow...

 

Something I for one did not realize: Apparently all 435 House seats are being filled this election.

 

As it is every 2 years. The house is elected on every even year.

 

I had forgotten, but Voter News Service (VNS) has been disbanded.

From a Palm Beach Post article: "The 2000 debacle was blamed, in large part, on Voter News Service, the exit poll consortium that supplied information to ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN and the Associated Press. VNS is gone, replaced this year by two new polling firms, Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International, which will analyze data and inform the networks."

Here's hoping the media manages some self-control and doesn't call races at 6:45pm EST.
