Default Washers and dryers

We are looking for new, and have been investigating and researching, and it seems they are stink. Perhaps that's an overstatement, but it seems there are complaints abounding on the internet and CR about everything that I look at (at least it seems that way to me). Any recommendations, we currently have a Maytag Neptune set (the washer that brought down Maytag), and I am tired of the smell (the reason behind the fall of Maytag) in the washer and the dryer is getting tired.

Let me know what you decide on Ken. Our washer and dryer is a GE Profile which came with the appliance package when we bought new 3 years ago. We didnt upgrade then as that is where the builder makes a killing. They have not been bad (1 repair) to the washer but next time we will upgrade to get more features.

Well, I have an Asko washer and dryer. Not sure if they make full-size ones. Mine are a bit smaller for a condo. But I love them.

My house had a Neptune washer when I bought it but I had to replace it when the drum had issues. I researched and checked with Consumer Reports. Bought this one two years ago, the LG WM2016CW. I'm happy with it. BTW, this subject probably has three other threads in Vintage.

We are running a Whirlpool Duet front loader pair from, oh, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe a year or two before the steam clean feature came out. No issues whatsoever and no smell (however, knowing of front loader washer's apparent propensity to this, we do typically leave the washer door ajar after use.)

Kenmore HE3 front loading washer and dryer set; just turned 7 years old this month. No issues or smells. You must use HE laundry detergent (I use tide) and be stingy or you will get an over sudsing signal. I did buy the pedastals to raise the height so I wouldn't have to do laundry on me knees but it serves as great storage space.

Good luck with your search.

I have Maytag washer / dryer. They are 7 year's old now, never a problem. They were CR's best pick's in 2003.

If you are getting a front load washer, you have to make sure you have a solid base to support washer. The load is distributed differently with a front loader.

We have the LG WM3875HVCA with the matching dryer. Had it for about six months now and haven't had any issues.

We had a Frigidare front loader which only lasted 5 years. During that time the water pump failed and then the main bearing gave out. So we do not recommend them.
When we replace it we are planning on a Bosch front loader. The reports on it are good and it will fit into the space we have in the kitchen.
