We Lost a Friend
A friend of mine (I was friends with the couple), took his own life this week. He wasn't home Tuesday night when she came home from work. Something was amiss and she suspected the worst so the police were called in. The police found him the next day in a motel room a few miles from the home with a gun shot to his temple. He must have walked or taken a bus, because his cars, keys, and everything except his ID was at home. I know there is little any one can do at this point, as we all missed the signs that he needed more help. The counselor that he was seeing for depression stopped therapy and his medications a year ago, declaring that he didn't need them any more. I am very saddened with his loss. He was a very bright, and always helpful man. I didn't know he was in so much pain. I will miss him very much.

Sorry for your loss. Suicide is never easy to understand. Very painful for those left behind. Try not to beat yourselves up thinking you should have seen more of the signs of the extent of his depression.

I know someone who went through a bout of depression and was counseled and medicated for a short period of time. It was frightening since I felt helpless. This person told me the depression made them feel 'nothing'; no pain,no happiness, just a void. I can't imagine feeling so hopeless that the only solution is to end your life.
Most of us want an answer to 'why'; sometimes is just not forthcoming.

Sorry to hear of this...a void is a good description. So bad for anyone who would like to help because, as in many other conditions, the person has to be willing to help himself.

Thank you all for your support and concern. They were both relatively young. She is 46 and he was in his early to mid 50's.
I appreciate your comments and thoughts during this time.

I feel her pain. My Dad took his lile at 59 and I found him. My family, friends and most importantly God got me through this terrible experience. My prayers are with her. I have never gotten over it and probably never will.

Very sad news to learn. Suicide is VERY difficult to understand and is hard on those left behind. Nothing will bring him back. But, I hope that you and his family have fond memories that will keep him alive in your hearts and mind.
