Welcome Dave/parkerdt
Welcome to Dave/parkerdt our new Vintage member. He sent me the following info to share with you all.
I was born in 1953 in Kinston NC. Married my second #1 in August of '97 and we moved to Cincinnati a year later (on our anniversary, no less) for HER job. I'm a network engineer for Computer Sciences Corp, and I can live anywhere within spitting distance of an airport! I have an 18 year-old son and a 15 year-old daughter from my first marriage who live in San Diego. I have 2 daughters, 13 and 7 from my second marriage who live with us.
Growing up, I was always envious of a family friend who had (and drives to this day, 3 restorations later), a '64 Austin Healy. When I was a senior in high school, my best friend got an older Alfa Romeo Spyder for his graduation present, and I was even more in love with roadsters!
My Dad was a little more practical (and worried!) so my first car was a '61 Ford Fairlane 500. The car covered me for summers during high school, and as a graduation present, I got a lightly used '70 ( as I recall) Kharmann Ghia
with a 3-speed manual with automatic clutch. I was really hooked on shifting at that point!
I am commuting over 100 miles to work, so I wanted something SAFE. I was about to turn 53, so I traded my car for a fair price on my new S2k! First stick I've had in a while, but I grew up driving them, so I felt at home quite quickly - just no longer as agile exiting the cockpit as I once was.
I never realized how fun a convertible is, except when it is raining or just too darned hot and humid to drive to work with the top down. I'm a senior technical professional, so I have to look presentable and smell like I've had a bath when I get to work! After work is a different story....
My S2k is stock with the addition of XM, iPod link, wheel locks and a car cover. I intend to get the hardtop, as it is a daily driver, and some decent snow tires on 16" rims - probably the Blizzak WS-50s or the like.
My hobbies are pretty basic - saltwater reef aquaria and my 2 Bichon Frise dogs.I enjoy taking my girls to soccer and basketball most weekends, and the occasional round of golf, as well.
Welcome, Dave.
You'll fit right in here.

Dave. I have to tell you, I keep thinking of Dave Parakeet when I see your screen name.
