Default What to do with packing foam peanuts?

Well, as more things are bought over the Internet (eBay, Amazon, Craigs list ...), I find that I have boxes and boxes of the packing foam peanuts. Question is what should I do with them? Usually I just put them in a bag and put them in the trash can. But I know that the foam peanuts are not good for the environment because they will not decompose. So what is the correct thing to do with these foam peanuts?

As a related problem, when I try to remove the foam peanuts from the boxes, I find that they are sticking to my hands, my body, etc. due to the static electricity. I tried to discharge myself first, but it didn't work. Any suggestions on how to deal with the static electricity? Thanks in advance.

Anyone with many gifts to send out during the holidays would want them if they have a place to store them. Goodwill and Salvation Army might take them since small businesses might purchase them.

As for the static problem, very lightly spray yourself with water. A plant mister or pint sprayer would work well!

You mean you're not supposed to eat them? Oh....

These days, lots of mail-order places have gone to degradable peanuts -- they dissolve in water. You can test one out to see, and if it does then that box full can be put in the regular trash.

Real styrofoam peanuts, if they're in good shape and clean, can often be taken to pack-and-mail places, where they'll gladly reuse them. HPH

Allow me to turn your life around. STOP BUYING THINGS! Ok, now step two. START SELLING THINGS! Ok, now step three. USE THE PEANUTS TO PACK THE THINGS YOU SELL TO OTHERS!

Follow the steps shown in capital letters. You will enjoy the following benefits.

1. Lots more money in your bank account.

2. Less crap around the house.

3. No excess styrofoam peanuts.

Please remit 10% of all increased savings in your bank account to Legal Bill Enterprises LLC.

I keep a few in my tackle box. They make great line markers if you're running a rod off a rod holder from shore. Just wrap the line around once and if you see it headed out to sea, go for it. Of course I also use mangrove leaves.

I'd spray them orange, bag them tag them and sell the whole thing to Cabelas.

Unfortunately, some things are just not available locally and must be bought online. I don't buy a lot of stuff, it is mostly my children who buy things and have it shipped to my home. I have never tried to sell anything online, things I no longer use I donate to the local Goodwill or Salvation Army. So that still leave a pile of foam peanuts.

I tested one and it is real styrofoam, not biodegradable. I'll see if any local mailing places would accept them for reuse.

I wouldn't give up on step two and three. At least untill the peanuts are gone. How about if you pack your donations in peanuts to insure they won't get damaged???

They should be outlawed! Where's the long arm of the government when you need them? But I haven't tried to pee on them, maybe they will disolve.
