I'm working on the house this weekend with my contractor. I can't believe what a difference having the windows replaced made in the appearance and feel of the house.
Interesting you would say that. My reaction was totally opposite. We just replaced 14 double hung windows and they don't look or feel any different than before. Sure they are better, tighter, easier to clean, no moisture and no storms but . . . but as far as really noticing a difference - not really.

The only window that did make a big difference was a gliding window over the kitchen sink that was replaced with an awning window.

Did you completely change the style of your windows?

I have a big window behind my kitchen sink that has a big problem. It leaks, on the inside. With all the rain we've been having here in So Cal all week, water is dripping from the top of the frame, on the inside and splashing on the counter behind the sink. I don't get it. There's a big deck above the window, on the master bedroom and it doesn't look like water is leaking down from that deck.

This weekend I will be happy if Spokes Man and I get to drive our RC cars. We still want to go see Avatar in 3D, too. And if the sun is out, Cars and Coffee on Saturday morning will be part of the plan.

^ Water travels in mysterious ways (vertically and horizontally). So it could be coming from someplace you don't expect.

Yes, the old windows were aluminum and a nasty dark brown in color. Additionally, they're double-paned and some of them, especially in the Florida room, had leaked and fogged up. These windows had been installed in the house back in the late 70s. I went with white aluminum windows, which have brightened up the house immensely. I'm also having one brick wall cut out of the Florida room for a sliding glass door that opens onto the screened-in patio. That's what we're working on today. I've been having lots of fun with my sledge hammer this morning. Every brick looks like a certain someone who shall remain nameless.

If it's not too late and not too much more money I'll pass along something to consider. Out of all the home improvements we made over the years, perhaps the best was replacing a sliding glass door with french doors that swing open. I should add, this is especially true if it's a door that will get a lot of use.

^ I got this sliding glass door for free, and it's brand new. I like French doors, but they wouldn't work in my Florida room.

I think Patty and I are going to Pittsburgh to do a little shopping at Ikea and LLBean. Anything will be better than sitting at home.....

Avatar 3D was excellent! Story line is OK but the 3D and special effects are increadable.
