The picture below shows what used to be a solid piece cover for the cable TV line that serves my Mom's and my house. Last weekend I hit it with the lawnmower and converted it to a two piece cover.
Shortly after this inadvertant mishap a vote of the High Council decreed that a flower bed should be immediately placed in this area so that there would be no recurrence. Therefore it was further decreed that a mini tiller should be purchased post haste so that the previous order should be fulfilled.
Said Honda tiller was thence purchased and performed magnificently until it struck a not so well buried couple of phone drops which serve the two lines for my house (pictured below).
Fortunately only one of the lines was completely severed so we didn't have to resort to calling BellSouth repair on a cell phone. The tech finally made it out here this afternoon and spliced both lines just in case. I assured him that these were the final modifications we intended to make to the property immediately adjacent to their pedestal.
He smiled and replied that we should at least wait seven days before digging in the bed again so that he could avoid a call back.
Pictured below is the cover for the electrical service (the only utility we didn't get into thank God).
The last two pictures are of the (almost) finished bed. I'd tell you what plants they are but that's on a need to know basis and I only dig the holes.

I feel your pain.
Martha decided today that she wants library paneling on the ceiling. I'm all atingle with the anticipation of making and installing the stuff. I'll probably lose a half dozen fingers making the four billion miter cuts that I'll need.
Seriously, that's why they have the NoCuts or Call-before-you-dig 800 numbers. It is a free service. If they mark it wrong, then you don't pay if you cut something
Ahh, spring. The gardeners are out and the utility workers get lots of overtime. Many years ago I use to repair that stuff, at least you could show him where it was, you would be surprised how many people don't have a clue as to why thier phone quit working.
Remember that line runs all the way to the house, so you may have another oportunity to call your local friendly utility worker.
The end results looks good. Those are class "A" holes.... oops. Job well done.

Yeah it was right there on the pedestal. You would think though that if they meant buried cable, they would have buried it at least 6" to a foot underground. As you can see from the picture, it was more like run it along the ground and kick some dirt over it when they're done.
I know why they did that though. You can't dig a hole anywhere in this yard without hitting a layer of chirt/rock about 3" to 6" below the topsoil. They started out with their trencher and after the third time it broke down they just ran it along the ground and kicked a little dirt over the top and waited for the builders to sod the yard.
From what I gathered, there will be no bill. Just an apology for the install.

Tomorrow we do another one by the mailbox. Other than the Postal Service, I don't think any other utilities are nearby.

What the hell is library paneling?
That's what I said when I was instructed that I was going to be installing it. It's a type of raised panel sort of like what's on doors. It's hard to explain, so here's a pic of some on a ceiling. Ours is going to be painted, not stained, and I won't be installing any big beams like those in the pic. library paneling
