Default Why Honda is fading

Honda's concept isn't the weirdest at the Tokyo Show, but it's pretty strange.

See car #2 here.

I hate to differ with you but I don't think that's why they're fading. If you want to know why they're fading take a look at the Accord and the entire Acura line and what's become of it. Honda used to march to the beat of it's own drummer, now their cars seem just like everyone else's (except not as current or as nice).

Not to muddy the waters or anything, but frankly I can hardly tell anyone's cars apart anymore. Now that I'm trying to get in the mood to buy another car nothing is appealing. I'm sort of leaning toward mercedes but seem to recall they drive like a ford, so I'm really having trouble centering on something comfy but sporty at the same time. Honda is producing nothing of any interest at this point since I'm not looking for a sedan. I do like the look of the Mercedes slk 350, but the drive factor is lacking. BMW is not out of the running but it looks like a box with wheels as does the Volvo. I'm glad I'm not able to drive yet or I'd really be So far the appearance of the SLK350 has first place, but I'm just not ready to jump on it.

add a little drive factor. Go with the SLK55.
Nice looking car.

I've been saying for several years now that Honda has lost its mojo. To blame it on the economy, etc. is to ignore other manufacturers such as Hyundai, Kia, Audi, etc. These manufacturers are now in the can't miss driver's seat where Honda once sat. Honda is now scrambling to re-do lackluster cars like the Civic. Acura; can you think of a more appliance like car that tries to pass itself off as a luxury car? Honda has no image buzz and once it is lost, it is very difficult to regain. As things stand right now the S2000 was their last real buzz and they let it die a slow death.

Not that I myself would have been interested, but I wondered for years why Honda didn't bite the bullet and produce a V8 luxury car as a flagship -- as their competitors were doing. I suppose their philosophy precluded that, but after all, they have always done well in the speed zone when building race cars and engines.

Right now, they don't have a single car that I would be interested in buying -- except maybe the Clarity -- if I lived in LA. I'm hoping my S lasts a long long time!

I'm in a similar quandary. I have 77,000 miles on my 2006 Si and as much as I love it I know that I'm going to have to replace it in about a year. Prior to the introduction of the 2012 models I thought my decision was simple. Swap the old Si for a new one when the time comes.

Unfortunately when Honda updated the Si to the 2012 model year they replaced the 2.0 l engine with the 2.4 l engine (the same one found in the TSX). My 2006 Si is a lot of good things, but the heart and soul of it is the engine. With the new engine it's simply not the same car. I'm not the only one who feels this way either. Most of the critics I've read agree. Its still a good car, but it no longer has the heart and soul of the old one.

Now I really don't know what to do. I'm going to keep my Si as may daily driver for as long as I can as it suits me perfectly but I know that sooner or later I'm going to have to replace it. So far I can't find any other car that interests me.

I can't wait to see the Subaru BRZ/Toyota Scion 86 and I'm thinking about the diesel Jedda, but things would've been so simple if Honda didn't screw up the Si.

they are getting cheap on fit and finish. The pride of Honda for 25 years was the finish quality of their cars, that changed alot with the release of the 2006 Civic, then the new Accord followed suite although the finish of the Accord is better than the Civic. Things just dont flow together like they used to, and it seems that insperation has been deflated.

I am curious, has their motorcycle division lost it's edge too, or are they still on top of their game?
