Wild Blue satellite internet
I recently asked for opinions on Directway satellite internet service. I had an installer give me a quote, and I wondered when he gave it to me, if I would get a kiss too, cause I felt screwed. I haven't done anything yet, but just got a mailer the other day from an outfit called Wild Blue offering the same thing, lower monthly fee (depending on speed) and free installation until May15th. They claim to have 50,000 subscribers. Does anybody know anybody that uses them? Any opinions? Thoughts? Rumors?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I have not heard of them. But I am curious what band width they are offering. How much $ per MB of downloads?
The reason that I ask is to maybe gain some insight for you. I have a business contact that is in the SatCom business that may be able to shed some light for you.
I recently attended a Sat Com trade show at the Washington Convention Center. I was fairly surprized at the number of European and Middle Eastern companies that had exhibits there.
Are their "birds" in a geosynchronous obit? Do they own them (I doubt it) Do they have "fractional" ownership of is it based on "time slice"?
I have not been to their website.

Per their website:
49.95 per month 512 Kbps download
128 " upload
69.95 1.0Mbps down
200K up
79.95 1.5M down
256K up
I don't know if they own their own bird or not. I would assume it's in geosynchronous orbit, as they say you need a clear shot of the southern sky, and the dish doesn't move, of course.
These aren't blinding speeds, but my 56K modem is only downloading at 3-6 Kbps, super slow, so this would be a major increase for me.
And no, I have no way of getting DSL, being out in the hills and away from town.
