Default Windows 8 Server Software Question

Help

What's does GUI mean?
What new benefits does it offer? I know it involves something to do with graphical interfacing.

In 10 words or less if possible, layman's terms please.

The puter guys thought it was great anyway. As long as I'm doing all this stuff, I'll take all the advice I can get about making the most of it.

More things to click that do things you probably don't need to do.

Sometimes an improved GUI will make it easier to perform certain functions.

typically a GUI is used instead of command line.
example is the toolbar across the top of your browser.
so you right click your mouse instead of typing c:/mozilla/browser.exe\cmd=back,path=https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=755062&st=0&#entry17826975,win dow=noresize

It's basically the interface between the user and whatever system s/he is using. What the user sees, i.e., a screen, the design of which could be good or bad, user friendly or not.

Designing GUIs is an art and requires a very good knowledge of the audience being targeted. The GUI is usually tested on a representative sample of users to get feedback and make changes.

well they started my son's first operations training session one minute ago.
I can't wait to hear how that went.

My oldest employee got excited this morning....she successfully put in her own password. She still can't run a mouse very well. She makes good cookies however.

For those of us who have been involved with computer systems for years, it is kinda funny to hear something like that. My dad (93) likes his computer and does some stuff on it, although he doesn't understand a whole lot and needs help. My mother (87) hasn't a clue and doesn't want to know.
