Locally, I've worked with Heroes on the Water. They bring vets from the local VA and community centers to lakes and do fishing. My employer is very veteran friendly and we sponsor the entire day, pay for food, get volunteers for everything, from serving food to setup and cleanup to doing the fishing with the vets (on the pier or in the kayaks). Hoping they'll be back this year after a 2 year absence. Such a fulfilling day donating time to work with those in need and be a part of their experience.

I don’t give to Wounded warriors. They have a bad track record of not using the contributions for veterans but for exotic trips and personal items. I give to a veterans organization in Naples, Fla. I know the organizer and except for normal expenses all of the contributions go to the vets.
