Interesting. I used the spray gel twice. The last two times the nasal swabs. I had read about the sense of smell issue, but had not heard of anyone having that problem.

Thanks for posting.

It kind of felt like it. Extra sneezing, and the like. So far so good. I've not had any real asthma issues since I had a chest cold last spring, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Best remedy for a cold,is:
2 ounces of Geneva Gin,a table spoon of honey,2 table spoon of lemon juice, and fill up the glass with hot water, then take 2 Aspirins and go to bed.

I think there was a Class Action suit filed about the damage to many people from the nasal version.

Yes, there was. From about .com: [B] [I] A lawsuit that was brought against the manufacturers of Zicam

This remedy reminds me of a story from my child hood.

My Father used to keep a decanter in the dining room "liquor cabinet" with home made "Rock N Rye". When ever a bottle of any kind of booze got down to the end he would pour it into this decanter that had "rock candy" and some slices of orange and lemon in it. He swore by it as a cold / flu remedy. Take a couple of shots, climb into bed and "sweat it out" of your system. The next day he would feel much better.

When I was about eleven years old I used to play with the son of the Minister of the church that I attended, which was located around the corner from the house that I grew up in. The Minister was "under the weather" and my Father sent a empty peanut butter jar (about pint sized) of "Rock N Rye" home with my friend with the instructions for the Minister to drink a couple of shots and then climb into to bed. Well, I guess the instructions got lost in the communication between my Father, my friend and his father the minister. Who apparently drank the entire jar full. A half an hour latter the paramedics where hauling him off to the hospital with a high fever. He was released the following day after his fever broke and his cold was gone.

Ditto the lozenges. Not the Zicam brand, but whatever the brand is that started the whole Zinc craze.

In 2000 I was on a business trip to Europe. The U.K. was our last stop and we arrived in London on a Friday. I came down with one of the worst colds of my life. On Friday night I was so sick that even food at a high end Thai restaurant was not attractive to me, even though I had not eaten all day.

On Saturday morning, my co-worker that I was traveling with drug me to an Apothecary. The druggist recommended zinc lozenges and glycerin with honey. I went back to the hotel and took them every few hours as recommended and sleep from Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. Woke up and had a good dinner and was ready to go in time for our money morning meeting.

That experience turned me into a Cold Ezze fan. If you take them at the first sign of a cold they have been proven to reduce the severity and longevity of colds by 50%.
