Default AC Detailing: My '08 Chicane

So today I didn't have any cars to do, and I neglected my car for two whole weeks!! . So I decided I'd give it a little TLC.

Products used:

Meg's Gold Class Soap
Megs Hyper Dressing
Megs APC
Lexol Cleaner/Conditioner
DP ISP
303 Top Protectant
Stoners IG
Menzerna PO85rd with edge orange
Lusso Oro by hand rub

Sorry no before/during pics, and only 3 crappy cell phone pics. Going to buy a digital camera as a business expense soon. After I get some zymol and other goodies .

Who says you can get black reflectivity from silver?!

Oh, and I take back my previous comments about Lusso Oro. With most waxes, it's hard for me to tell the difference from cleaner wax/paint correction, and then the actual carnuba application. But with lusso, I can actually see a difference after the wax has cured and wiped off. I just have to get used to applying with my hands.. I feel like I'm using a ton of wax as opposed to just using my PC with a finishing pad.. any comments on this? Matt? Wannabe? Those who have used others by "palm application"?

That's it!

Aaron

Hey-

As far as a few tips, you really need to spread the wax thinly and rather quickly. As Im sure you noticed, it dries semi-fast, and once it does, it will not budge. Do not try to force it to spread further, just go back and get some more. Also, If you flatten your whole hand and lay it flat on the paint, you can really spread a fairly even coat so its not as "blotchy" as it may be by just using your fingers. Hope this helps!

Matt,

I usually use my whole hand, and I did notice that when I got my hands really warm with the wax, it spread nicely for all of 10-15 seconds then all the wax I put on my hand was dried up but then.. So does it actually take more wax to apply with hands then with the PC? 'Cause if so.. I don't see much of a difference and ever since I got my PC I was applying wax via it and never had returning swirls that people said you'd get.

Meh, I guess it's just preference really. YEa, the PC will apply a thinner coat, and it is faster to use the machine. But I honestly enjoy using my hands for it, especially if a customer is watching as it makes them feel that theyre getting that much more.

Oh no I'm not knocking the method! I want to do it this way.. but the reason I brought up the PC 'cause I, like you, detail cars on the side, and I had an 8oz can last me almost a year detailing a car a week.. and I've only had my lusso for 4 car details and it's already 1/4 or so gone.

My main question is am I doing it right? My process: rub my hands together to get them hot, then I put a chunk of the wax in my hands and warm that up, rub the wax on my hands multiple times over, then lay my hand on the car and start spreading; while with my other hand rubbing my fingers against my palm to keep the wax heated.

But like I said, I think i have the problem when spreading it.. the wax only lasts like 10-20 seconds before it's dried in like say.. the distance on the hood from the side to the squirter, and then down about 6" give or take. Should it be drying and not be spreadable that quick?

You do it about the same way I do. And yea, it does dry rather quickly, unfortunately. For instance, yesterday I was able to do 1 front fender with one application, and the trunk lid (just the top portion) with 1 application. Also, it seems like if you get it on too thick it dries faster than a thinner coat. Try putting less in your hand (I just hold the wax and rub my left hand around on it until its covered fairly well and then set the wax down and rub my hands together.) So it sounds like Im getting about 1/2 as much wax as you per application.

really cool to see the hand rubbing spreading-

its a method that doesnt necessarily add anything to the process, other than a slight degree of perfection- perfect for the wacko!
above all else, it is fun and if your neighbors see you, they will understand... especially if they have seen you foam the car, dry it with a leaf blower and polish it with a machine. hand rubbing just kinda fits right in, huh?
finally, its a small group that has this skill- but i predict that its gonna grow-

congrats on the hand rub job, and we are gonna take up a collection to get you a new camera!! (jk)
