What I did with my V2 rims is powder coat then get the outer surface diamond cut on a lathe, which you can have done at a wheel repair shop. The V1 wheels can't be polished with removing the factory machine finish.
Such a stupid decision by Honda to use diamond cut finish on the outer edge of the rim, especially where damage is likely to take place!!!! I will probably repair, sand, and just repaint in silver, hs anyone performed such type of refurbishment?
What looks like raw metal is not. There is a factory clear coating. Look for wheel cleaners that do not etch the metal. Costs a bit more but it saves the wheels. Will try to come up with a brand tomorrow.
Lots of threads on powder coating and the damage it can do the alloys. That is why almost all race venues prohibit powder coated wheels.
I have rattle can painted my wheels with Dupli-Color/silver. There is a learning curve. Much better the second time. Prep and sanding is important. You need to practice spraying so you don't run the paint. Cannot be too cold or too hot. You will want to apply at least 5 coats of clear. You have an hour window, I think, to apply multiple coats. No waiting for complete curing to apply coats unless you make a huge boo boo. Let the things cure completely. I did it before a trip I had and let them sit for 2 weeks.
