So you are laying zaino over the p21s?
not fresh... p21s over zaino.

but if the p21s has been on the car for a month or so, i just zaino the car- so effectively it is "sandwiched" (actually there would not be much carnuba left at that point).

should also mention that i use several quick detailers sprays, and one contains carnuba- so the car does always have some carnuba on it, even when i apply zaino. again, 7 years now with no problems!

OK, so that clears it up for me. I was just wondering if it was OK to put carunuba on top of the zaino. I have used Zaino for years but never put carnuba over it. I am considering it for this time around, but still unsure. What detail spray do you use? I always liked the way the z16 seemed to repel dust somewhat.

Do any of those have anti-static properties like the z6?

All the Finish Kare QDs are anti-static . . .

http://www.fk1usa.com/

They're supposed to be really nice QDs too, but I haven't personally used them yet. The company was started by I guess you could say the "black sheep" of the Meguiar's family, Floyd. Instead of working for the family he decided to start his own company.

Wow and I though Zaino had a large confusing product line...

Will applying Z6 over p21s have any ill effects?

again, the "normal" way is carnuba over synthetic...

as long as the carnuba has worn a bit there is no problem - so either p21s over carnuba then wait about a month or so before the next zaino... or detailers sprays (not a large amount of carnuba even in the carnuba based sprays) over the zaino (or in my case- zaino with p21s over it and then the detailers sprays over that).

have not ever done carnuba and then laid down a synthetic over it. i would not expect that to be a great combo- (i do not think that the synthetic would bind well to carnuba).

Adhesion.... That was one of my concerns about the sandwich method. I am wondering how well the Zaino will adhere to the vehicle after wax has been applied. But, if you have done it for years with no problems, it must work.

When you are ready for the next application, does the surface begin to look worse, or is the water beading just not as pronounced? At the end of the month or so, how do you decide if you need more Zaino, or another coat of carnuba?

it works... trust me

when we experimented with this in the beginning, sal zaino told us that it wouldnt work. even after we did it several times over several months, he did not believe us (mainly me and member named "boiler"). we started with finish first- when zaino came out we waited around a year before we tried it (mainly because of sal's insistence that it would not work).

my surfaces never get a chance to "need" protection. at my last swirl removal, i had over 20 coats of zaino on the car, and no idea how many carnubas!!!

i dont keep track anymore, and am about to do another swirl removal- so i can only guess that it has lotsa coats.

the way i decide if it "needs" more carnuba or zaino is very scientific...
the night before a detail, i gather all products that i will likely use- when i wake up, i decide what i feel like doing- carnuba or synthetic (or sometimes wash only). if i want to spend more time with the car its a synthetic day. if i want to do more than just wash, but not as much as synthetic, its a carnuba day!!... its really that simple (hope you are not disappointed in this not so scientific method!)

on my other cars, its usually gonna be synthetic cause the carnuba will be gone by then (several months)- and then depending on how much time i want to spend it will be just synthetic or carnuba over the synthetic.

as i always say, the second step of detailing is inspection (first step is washing)- inspecting a clean car can usually help you decide what you will be doing next... inspection plus how much time you wanna spend.

i think that the point of all of my rambling was that you should do what you want to do. detailing is, for me, a relaxing process. it is totally different from my "normal job"- no pressure, no time requirement, i decide the entire process... etc.
i hope it is this for you too. if it is, you will be a true wacko like the rest of us!!
