Default Best way to clear up headlights?

Hi guys....newbie here

well my headlights arent the best shape. They're not cracked or anything, but have some rough spots like scratches and some dullness.

What is the best way to get them to look 100% new again?

I was thinking of using some fine wetsanding, 1500 grit lightly to get rid of any imperfections, but not sure if this will harm them.

Please help me out and list steps on what to do.

thanks

some members on here have had good results with the 3M headlight kit. should be able to find it at your local pepboys or the like.

Mm I don't think I would be satisfied using that for heavily oxidized headlights, but it would work probably for lightly oxidized headlights.

i used 1500 grit horizontally wetsanding then 2000 grit vertically wetsanding. Polished, sealed and now it is part of my normal detail to keep the UV protection up.

do a good job of painters tape around so you don't "ding" any of the surrounding paint or frame

I wrote a DIY headlight restore for my site

All the steps I used for that specific job, but you can alter things as needed for your restore.

What about to slow down the clouding process, I use Hondashine or Plexus spray, I got it for my bike, but I've been using it on the headlights. My 2005 lights still look great. Any thoughts on keeping them nice?

I used the 3m product on my girlfriends Saturn and it worked good, still a slight cloud, but maybe I didn't do one of the steps enough.

just got done doing mine, they werent that bad, but im pretty meticulous about my car. all i used was toothpaste a couple wet rags and some shop towels.
Before:

After:

Quick how-to:
-squeeze some toothpaste on one wet rag, and wipe onto headlights, kind of like waxing
-take the other wet rag, and buff the toothpaste off, and wipe dry with paper towel, shammy whatever.
-repeat for heavily oxidized headlights

if it doesnt work, well it didnt cost anything since u should have everything needed in your house anyway.
