Default Black Trim

I was following the directions when I polished my car and I put a sheet over the soft top and taped around all the trim. The only problem is when I removed the tape it has left an odd design in the trim and i don't know how to get it out.

I used the 3M blue painters tape to tape off the trim.

Edit: This is only the trim around the softtop and windows. The emblems and such are fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

is it gum from the tape or just marks on the vinyl? if marks, any vinyl product should do- 303, vinylex, etc- if gum you gotta get it off first

I wish I could describe it. It actually looks as though the tape took off a really thin layer of the plastic. I have tried rubbing it with 303. My next step is to try and get some adhesive remover and see if there is something on the trim that I was not aware of.

The car got keyed and was repainted. The trim was removed, but its possible it had overspray on it when they touched up some things. Im kind of baffled at this point.

Pics might help as well. Try to post some up if you can. Good luck, and let us know if anything works.

Turns out, as far as I can tell, that the adhesive from the tape etched my trim on the doors and around the back of the soft top. Nothing will fix it. I basically have to replace it. I guess I won't be masking of the trim anymore when I polish.

The worst part is you have to pull the soft top completly in order to replace the back trim piece.

I would say it's HIGHLY unlikely your trim was damaged by painter's tape.

I just taped mine with the same tape a couple of days ago, and no problems here

I would say the same thing. I know the trim was perfect before I put it on and when I took it off it looked horrible. I have tried using goo gone and it didn't fix it, even tried 303 nothing. I will definitely take pics and post them so you can see. I don't know if it was because it was an older roll or what.
