Boar's hair brush
I washed may car last weekend using the boar's hair brush from Girot's Garage http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1..._1001&SKU=66073. This thing is fantastic and does a superb cleaning job. The brush hairs are about three inches long and very soft. They get into and clean all the cracks and crevices and do not in any way mar, scratch, or harm the finish. This is the best device for washing a car I have ever used.
The brush is also great for cleaning the wheels.

$70 is a little "stiff". I have used lambs wool (real) with success. Also cotton towels for polishing and such. What polish do you use? I have been using Zaino. Very easy to use and leaves a very nice finish.
Yes, it is expensive, but it's also the best washing tool I've ever used. IMO, well worth the cost.
My car is Zainoed -- five coats and waiting for more once the weather turns in our favor up here in the Northeast.

I use a lamb's wool mit ($3.99) for the wheels, regular sponges for the body. They do a great job without scratching.
Zaino here all the way. I've got 5 coats on mine also....waiting for warmer weather to apply more.

Before I bought the Boar's hair brush, I had used the lambswool mits for many years, with good results. But I was always aware that they picked up grime and bits of dirt and had to be frequently rinsed to avoid the risk of scratches. The Boar's hair brush seems much better in this regard and it lathers up the car wash foam much better, which I think provides even more protection.

Yes, the boar's hair brush works great. Expensive, but worth it. My stook wishes to thank the naked boar.
Hey, did anyone else notice that it smelled like a wet pig after the first time you used it! Yuck! Fortunately, the odor went away after a couple of uses.
