Default Can this be removed by polish/buffing?

I just got my car a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure this scratch wasn't here when I got it. Not sure how it happened but is this something that can be taken out using detailing techniques or does it need to be painted? Looks like its through the clearcoat but it isn't very deep.

Thanks for your help. How would I go about getting that fixed?

Thanks,

Tom

My initial guess is that is it too deep and will have to be repainted.

Could you wash your car (at least that section) and take another picture? It'll help to see what the scratch looks like on it's own.

Typically, if you can catch the scratch with your fingernail, it's too deep. But that doesn't always mean that there is no hope. If it can be fixed, the people here will be able to help you along the way.

even if it can't be completely removed by compounding/polishing, compounding/polishing will help to round off the edges which will help to make it blend in much better.

i see you're in NY - there should be quite a few wackos in your general area that may be able to help you out

I guess its to the paint but its not something that you HARDLY feel it if at all using your fingernail. I'm taking my car to Andrew in queens this Saturday, I'll see what he can do.

Thanks,

Tom

I thought we had started a list of detailers and their locations. I can't find it at the moment.

Let us know what your guy says.

Here's a fun read. Just goes to show you that you can fix almost anything.

Just got her back from the body shop so I was pretty pissed when I saw it.

I can feel it when I run my nail against it but it doesn't feel very deep.

It wouldn't hurt to try something like the 3M Scratch Remover. I had pretty good results here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=667640
