can u use regular car soap on the top?

can u use regular car soap on the top?

is it safe? i just used a soft brush and soaped it.. then when it was dry i applied the aerospace 303 protectant.. is there another vinyl top shampoo i should use? or is this method fine....

anyone know where i can pick up this cleaner? do the local automotive stores usually carry it?
