Question Can Windshield pits be buffed out?

Can windshield pits be buffed out? My windshield has six years of pits and spots on the windshield from sand a gravel.

Is there a way and a method to polished out some of these spots and pits?

I saw a device, its a 2-inch foam pad designed to be mounted on a drill. Instructions say to keep pad wet, abrasive is already on the pad, and go over the windshield to eliminate pits an spots? Cost $12.

Is there a way to do this with the PC? Or by hand?

Or should I just save money and elbow grease for a new windshield?

I tried. Doesn't work.

You gotta get a new windshield.

you can improve the glass, but can not remove pits or holes...
glass polish would be the product if you want to try it- and with the pc is the best way.
be sure to go slow and try a small area first, before doing the whole thing

I have some glass polish made by RainX. I will give it a try.

Is this glass soft? I had the same situation with my Porsche, the German glass also would spot and pit. When I had to replace the windshield, the replacement was PPG and it seemed to resist pits more.
But I have no scientific basis for the conclusion, just a feeling.

I've heard/read that the windshield on the s2000 is prone to getting more chips/pits due to the quality of glass and the angle. I have a lot of pits and drive a 2003 ap1, I just wonder if it is worth getting a 3rd party windshield, if they hold up any better.

Let us know if the polish improves things for you at all.

I tried it and it did clean up the windshield. It stripped off some of the grunge that accumulated on the windshield. It did not do anything about the pits. I did this by hand.

I think I will try again in a few weeks using the PC with an aggressive pad.

I understand our windshields are also lighter than a normal windshield therefore presumably thinner.

I seen that product that you hook up to a drill, i was a little skeptical of it so didnt buy it looks scary looking.

Im have a gazillion pits on my windshield that in times when the suns hits hit looks so crappy makes me feel like my S is 20 years old, id figure id wait till a big rock cracks it then get my insurance to cover the replacement.
