Both of my rearview mirrors and my side windows are completely covered with water spots. Especially the rearview mirriors. Its really starting to bug me . I've read that using vinegar or rubbing alcohol is supposed to take them off, but I tried both and it didn't even make a dent in the spots. I've also tried Nicsand on my windshield and that just made some scratches in some spots worse.

Is there any other way to get rid of water spots that I'm not trying? Thanks for any help

 

you might have etched the clear coat... minerals can do that.

you can make etchs better but cant remove them - or if they arent etches, the cure is the same after vinegar...

the cure is polish. try a good swirl remover or paint cleaner and see how it does-
have you ever polished before? its not a simple task...

 

When I detailed for a dealership, we used this acid based wash to remove etched waterspots caused by acid rain, and just waterspots being on poorly maintained cars.

Basically you would rub it all over the paint, wait for it to try, wash it off, and repeat one more time. Surprisingly it'd get almost all the etchings out. When I first started, I tried clay and polish, and neither worked, but the acid wash did!

I'll have to call them and find out what it is..

Are you guys refering to removing stuff on my paint? I'm talking about on my windows and rearview mirror glass. I wouldn't use vinegar or rubbing alcohol on paint, lol.

 

go to detailer domain's site, they have a good glass polish that should do the trick.

if it's on your glass, that's a lot easier. I got rid of some with this thing called glass stove top cleaner. smelled like something with citrus in it for sure. You can try Chemical Guys Water Spot remover. I suspect this is highly acidic too. The directions included a thorough rinse after applying

 

Use cleaner or polishing compound from any store. It worked for me.,

 

I would strongly advise against using a strong acid to clean glass (or paint) surfaces.

Some dealers use Hydrofluoric (HF) acid (pH 3.14) that is best known for its ability to dissolve glass by reacting with SiO2, the major component of most glasses. A sledgehammer to crack a walnut.

 

i got some water spots all over the trunk. they baked in for 3 days. i used meguires clay-105(red pad)-83(yellow pad)-80(yellow pad)-26(brown pad) seams to have got most of them out but the paint does not fell good. i want to try out the CG water spot remover. anyone try it before?
