Default chamois

first time wash post.

are chamois good to use?
is there a proper way to use them?
why do they not leave streak marks compared to towels?

welcome to our board!!

chamois are fine... i use them on my beater cars when the big blues are all dirty.
but if you want the best, go big blue (or big blue type) towels- they suck everything off of the car, even better than chamois. and they are softer- less chance of swirls.

sometimes i use a leaf blower to blow off the excess water first, and sometimes i use the blade. takes a little experience to use those, but they are both easy once you get the hang of it. common sense helps- like you never put the blade on anything other than a towel and always wipe it down before using it.

with our cars, big blues can do the job just fine- the other tools are for either more complete water removal (the blower gets water out of the cracks) or speed (the blade gets most of the water off making the drying fast).

also learn to rinse the water off properly and you will have much less to dry off- after the first rinse, take the nozzle off of the hose, turn down the water pressure- starting at the top of the car, let the water take the water off of the car- this takes a little practice, but its a great way to get a lot of the water off of the car to make drying even easier.

I agree with wanabe... large waffle weave MF towels are the best to use for drying

absorber is fine...
should not be a swirl causer as long as you keep it clean

big blue (and similar mfs) is just the best, imo- they absorb better and are very easy to care for (you just wash them along with the other mfs). because you wash them each time, swirls are even less likely. again, its a matter of degree and the degree is small.

I have been using an absorber forever. I replace it for a new one once it starts to get a little dirty. As long as your careful they last a long time. Im on my third one and thats in almost 2 years.

I have an absorber and big blue. I have been using the absorber for years without any problems. Just rinse it in warm water before and after use. I put it in a ziploc bag after use.

I persoanly use my shop vac on the exhaust side to blow the water off. It is almost as fast but totaly safe as you cant scratch the paint like you can when using a towel to dry with.
Here is my shop vac I bought at Home Depot
