my bro moderator-
be very careful and make sure its a mild clay... no circular motions, especially on soft parts like plastic headlights.

i would test a small area first. and plenty of lube- very mild pressure.
prob would follow it up with a plastic polish- i like the power ball for that.

btw, only use clay for clay solutions (the plastic feels rough)- plastic does not have to be clayed usually... polish is more often what it needs.

what are you trying to fix?

I bought some used AP-2 headlights and they have some lite scatches since day 1 from shipping and such and from removing them from the donor car.

There was also some tape residue from trackdays and such. I have polished them up by hand using some :

The tape residue is now gone BUT the lite scratches remain.

I could install them the way they are now and be mostly satisfied but........ I do have that badge in my sig that MUST be honored.

I could only find 1500 grit sand paper at my h/w store. Even the local Auto Body shop didn't have 2000 or 3000 grit as the owner said they no longer wet-sand.

I do have the 3 step Novus collection but I think I tried that when I first go the headlights w/ limited results.

My local auto body and paint stocks to 3000 grit. You can order micromesh up to 12,000 grit.

I use the rotary and regular polish on mine. There have only been 1 set of headlights so far that I couldn't save. If the scratches are deep there isn't much you can do.

the clay bar is not going to diminish scratches.

if they are what you say hairline scratches. just use a 3000grit sandpaper and wetsand and buff out with either a pc or rotary

Thanks Hankook, I did review your stickied "How To" on headlights.

I'll have more questions, after I acquire some 3000.

Thanks.

So you do or do not use the wet-sanding technique for minor hairline sratches? Should I continue my quest for sand paper or resort to solely my PC and polish?
Either method is fine. I prefer the machine method but i'm not sure the PC has enough power to do it though . I use 4" pads on the rotary
