Default claybar'ing

what would cause blurryness left behind after a clay? I have never had this problem before... but it's on fresh paint now. I only did about a 1x2 area and then stopped. It looks like the claybar left behind some of it's clay from each wipe i took with it.

i'm thinking because the body shop waxed it a bit maybe before they gave it back to me, but i don't know.

btw, i didn't use dishsoap prior to clay'ing this 1x2 area and i used zaino carwash soap and warm water to 'lubricate' the claybar.

does it kinda look similar to when you wetsand?

i know when i clarbar on my bb it will leave some marring on the paint and i have to polish it out. is it a new bar? old bar? maybe its still contaminated?

usually when that happens your just scratching the paint, but its microscopic and you can get it out by just polishing

how fresh is the paint? wonder if it was waxed too soon...
would not cause your problem directly, but would affect the quality of the paint job.

hankooks2k's comments are right on as to my thoughts.
i never use cheap clay- and if i drop it, its trash.

i dont get marks from my clays, but agree that you should be able to polish them out.

what clay are you using?
how old is it?

I've gotten swirls with brand new clay before. Depends on the paint. And Berlina is notoriously soft. Sometimes you just have to polish it out. Usually it's very light, even if it looks bad.

zaino clay. I've used it twice so far but it is clean with no grit etc. I think maybe because of the cold weather so I'm just goingto wait for a warm day and the was with dish soap and start the process from the beginning

if i don't use enough instant detail spray to keep the surface slippery, then i get streaks of clay sticking to the paint. is this the same as what you are asking about?

Detailer's clay is an abrasive product, it works by abrading anything that protrudes above the paint surface

I absolutely soak the surface with detail spray before I clay and use VERY light pressure. I usually knead the clay a bunch before I use it to ensure it's slightly warm too.

Perhaps when you got the car painted, they used a soft clear that's more prone to marring??? Either way, it'll polish out, no problem.
