clear peeling on polished lip
so i just picked up these blitz type 01 CX, the face and hoops are in amazing condition with only 1 slight imperfection on one rim, not even curb rash, not sure what could have caused it. but anyway the polished lip seems to have some kind of clear film on it that is peeling off. i was wondering:
1. what is it?
2. can i remove it and how?
3. if removed should i just seal it with some type of wax? a wheel wax?

you can really see how it's peeling in this pic

this is happening on all 4 wheels
on a side note, anyone know FOR SURE if the CX's are 3 piece? i know (or at least based on what everything i've read) that the regular blitz type 01's are 2 piece, but get contradicting statements on whether or not these are 3 piece. i'm looking to possibly refinish them myself sometime down the line.

looks like they're clear-coated and the clear is coming off....
if thats the case, personally, i'd leave it. the clear will give added protection from the elements and nasty brake dust that normally eats at the rims surface

Yes, that is obviously clear coat peeling off. The cause is likely contact with some chemical (bird poop is the best clear coat remover there is!) or improper preparation before the clear coat was sprayed on.
If these wheels are not under warranty, the solution is to take them to a wheel restoration shop, have the clear coat removed from the peeling areas, and have those areas resprayed.

Looks like I'm having them refinished sooner than I thought.
Anyone have an opinion on painting vs powdercoating, the hoops specifically. Obviously powdercoating would resist chipping and I would think would be easier to clean and less likely to stain, due to brake dust etc.
