take the center apart and use alcohol to clean the contaminated areas. Allow to dry and reattach everything

I accidentally did this to myself not too long ago. Got a truly legendary amount of Coke floating in the cupholder well after hitting a bump and the little divider lever decided to fold down and let the can go horizontal in the cupholder area.

I ended up taking out the entire center console, disassembling it, and cleaning each piece. The AP2 center console doesn't need much in the way of tools to remove. Once you get the shift knob loosened, the upper panel can be removed by getting your fingers under the edges and pulling it up at the six clips. Once that's up, it can be further disassembled with a phillips screwdriver.

I found that Windex does a decent job of dissolving the hardening Coca-Cola stuck in cracks and crevices, and then I could mop up the Windex with a towel and then use silicone spray on the moving parts like the cupoholder divider, cupholder latch, hazard switch, roof switch, and defroster switch.

Taking the center console out also let me get access to the area under the cupholder, which had some leakage I managed to clean out as well. If you spill cola in the center console, you can bet that it'll have leaked everywhere possible and isunder or between any two parts that get near each other.

When I got done, every single component of the center console had been disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and/or protected, and reassembled again.

for the real thing (Coca Cola) ... I agree with a tear down, thorough alcohol wipe down...clean & dry...back together.

Might not need to use alcohol on the interior parts to clean up coke. Coke is mostly sugar which is totally water soluble.

You'll have to disassemble the whole thing and clean it piece by piece. Alcohol is probably overkill though. Water might get the job done, but I would probably use something like Meguiar's Interior Quick Detailer. Q-tips and some brushes will probably be helpful too.
