Default Confused by Microfiber towels

Today I decided to hand wax my S for the first time. After washing the S thoroughly, I began to apply Mother's Carnauba liquid wax using a microfiber towel. To my surprise, the microfiber towel was sucking up the wax! So much so that I couldn't establish a "haze" on the body of the car. To make matters worse, the instructions provided by Mothers indicated that I should continually fold the towel to a "clean" side to avoid contaminants from affecting the finish.

I ultimately switched to a microfiber towel that wasn't as thick as the towel I started with but I still had to contend with a small amount of absorption before the wax would apply correctly. I ended up using that same towel for the two coats of wax I applied. The end result was very nice but I still can't come to grips with the whole process. I feel like I did something wrong despite the end result.

Could any of you wash and wax wackos chime in and fill in some of the gaps I seem to have in my head? I'll try to take some photos of the car later tonight while the wifey and I are out and about.

I would not apply the wax with a microfiber towel. I use a microfiber applicator and have never had an issue. Also, you do not want to apply a large amount of wax as a little will go a long way.

my autoglym kit came with pre-moistened foam applicator pads and it has been the best application system I've used for hand applied wax. I would suggest a foam applicator which is moistened with a bit of water to reduce the amount that is sucked up by the applicator. If you choose to use a microfibre perhaps moisten it a tad with some water before you apply wax and it should reduce wicking up the product.

I use a cotton wax applicator. Tried MF but there was too much friction to apply it evenly. After hazing, I give the area a quick spray with QD and then wipe with MF.

Foam applicators are the best. You can gets packs of 3 or 5 for peanuts. Don't use microfibers. They are meant to take wax OFF, not put it on.

Ditto...Foam applicators are best, and I hit them with a couple of spritzes of quick detailer spray to moisten it first.

Defintaely foam has worked the best for me as well and moistening the pad with detailer is a good tip too.
