Our area is in a drought emergency. About 15 inches short on rainfall for the last year. So it's not appropriate to do my normal full-blown bathing of the car.

I don't drive my car in the rain, so I basically get dirt all over the car (especially back bumper) and bugs on the front.

My last two car washes I did "dry". This does not include convertible top, which I california dust before each time I put it down, so it doesn't get dirty.

Method:
(Clean all of the outside panels, clean inside door jams, etc. Clean wheels.)

A. California duster, shake out violently between every pass.

B. Soapy water and flannel rag: Pass 1: very wet rag, no pressure. Pass 2: ringed-out rag, normal pressure.

C. Clean water and flanned rag: Pass 1: wet rinse. Pass 2: lint-free synthetic chamois dry.

D. Re-apply 303 protectant with little sponge square to all rubber trim.

E. When all done, use eagle one spray & shine to restore wax.

My car is perfectly detailed, and I only used about 6 gallons of water.

you can also extend your clean car look (and use less water) by keeping the car covered when possible- and dust it often.
when mine starts to show any signs of haze i then use a detailers spray after dusting... my black car looks freshly detailed for over a month at a time using this method.

I don't think that I use that much water (6 gallons) with the hose. When I'm finished washing my car, the driveway is barely wet and there is nothing in the street. I have a valve on the hose as well as my quick disconnects. It's easy to turn the hose on and off. It's also very easy to take the nozzle off to sheet the water off of the car when rinsing it. I would not use anything but a sheepskin mitt or something similar to wash my car with. I would be scratching the finish for sure. You can really see the scratches with my red paint.

Like wanabe, I just use the quick detailer spray and my California duster to keep it looking great. I wash it when it rains and makes a mess of the car. Which is usually often around here.

Pray for rain and enjoy your car,
Bob
