Default Fabric softener sheets

My mom accidentally dried my MF towels along with one of those fabric softener sheets one time. I mentioned to her not to use any kind of fabric softeners but she was thinking of the liquid ones only. Are they unrecoverable now since that happened? I notice that when I dry my car the MF leaves lint, but that might have been because the first few times I washed and dried my MF and terry cloths together (including this incident). Now I wash and dry them separately.

Is there anything I can do to make them more effective again or even remove the lint? I was thinking of adding some vinegar to the rinse cycle as MikeyC suggested not too far back in another thread.

Getting the lint out is difficult, but here's what I would do . . .

-wash the towels a couple of times in the washing machine without detergent and using warm or hot water.
-put 1/2 a cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle each time to remove the fabric softener residue
-thoroughly clean the lint trap of the dryer and then dry the towels on high heat (I like to use my dustbuster on the lint trap before putting my towels in the dryer)

The vinegar/warm water in the washer should get rid of the fabric softener residue. Then hopefully the lint trap in the dryer will take out the lint. It may not cure the problem 100% the first time, but if you continue to use vinegar and a clean lint trap it should take care of everything over time.

I don't think you are supposed to dry MF towels on high heat right? I use low heat or just air dry most of the time.

I agree. I'd also add some detergent in the wash cycles. As long as it doesn't have any bleach or FS in it.
