Good question. And a wonderful piece of cloth it is. In Japan, they have a beautiful dark blue color too -- not here tho.

Haven't checked the search tab but I'll bet someone's asked this question before. Anyone got any thoughts?

The top is not cloth. (Don't know if it's still in the FAQ but it's wrong.) It's vinyl but looks pretty good, doesn't it? I use "low gloss" AmourAll on it about twice a year and it keeps it really black and good looking. However, some folks here have an aversion to AmourAll for whatever reason. If you are in that camp, then the other favourite is 303 Protectant.
I get an old T-shirt that I've cut all the seems off and have cut away any silk screening, spray the stuff on the rag and wipe it all over the top. It should not be dripping wet looking but leave the top up over night before you put it down just so it can air dry a bit.

Definetely use 303 every 2-3 months. I spray it on and use a sponge to get the excess off. Next, I park it in the sun to get the 303 to dry. Water will bead up when it has a good coat of 303. When you notice that the 303 is not beading up water, time to apply another coat. Only takes 10 minutes to apply and looks great when dry!

Use 3M's 303 vinyl cleaner and protect it with 303 vinyl protectant.
I had some tree sap on my top and the cleaner took it right off. Plus, the protectant is good as a UV ray protectant.

I am pretty sure it is the same material for all years. I seen mine and xvipers, feels the same, looks the same, didn't smell it though

I use 303 every month or so, since I hose down the top at car washes to get all the dust and stuff off.
