Default How to remove brake dust from wheels

Hi, I have a 2006 S. i guess about this time they started using brake pads that really shed dust on the front wheels, it's hard to keep up with the cleaning it's so bad. There are some black spots that won't come off, even with bug and tar remover.

How can I remove these spots? I need an easy and systematic way to keep my wheels clean and shining. Can anyone help?

Try claying them. What bug and tar remover did you use? Might I suggest Stoners Tarminator? It's a very strong tar remover.

Also, what wheel cleaner are you using? Maybe something more powerful will remove the break dust easier

Go to Wal-Mart Get "Barkeepers friend" It, water and a little elbow grease will take it of if not its pitted into the metal.

Stoners Tarminator is a good recommendation. If you can, I would remove the wheels, give them a good cleaning, and apply a sealant to them.

And afterwards, buy ceramic brake pads. Makes all the difference.

Then after that head down to your local Honda dealer and get some new wheels. Bar Keeper's Friend is a scouring powder. It's not meant to be used on painted surfaces which is what S2000 OEM wheels are.

I sure have read good things about the Sonax wheel cleaner, available from our sponsor. If I had they kind of brake dust problems that you do, I'd sure give it a try.

But my 2007 doesn't give me the kinds of problems you're describing. I wonder if Honda changed the pads between 2006 and 2007. I use Griot's Wheel Cleaner, which is on the gentle side, and have no problem removing brake dust and stains. Curious.

Another product you might want to try: Amazing Roll Off. I used it last fall to clean the inside of my rims. It did a great job.
