Default I know this is blasphemy.... but...

Okay I know I am putting a gun sight on my head with this one but I need some help. I just bought a new S2k last week and the garage where I keep my car is a really crappy place to keep a car because it's in the basement of the apartment building where I live and is dustier than a desert and to add insult to injury I found that it also has pipes that leak!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that with a black car I am going to be in hell with this one until a new spot opens up and I can move to a parking space away from the leaky pipes.

Anyway I ordered a custom car cover that should help until I things change but there is no hose outlet or a place for me to properly detail my car before I start using the cover.

So here goes the question that should get me shot in this forum...

Is it safe to bring my car to a drive through car wash? Please explain and help me out because my car is starting to look like crap and I really don't know what to do because this is my first rag top and I want her to look as good as she drives.

Someone, please shoot this guy

Now seriously, try to find a place where you can properly hand-wash your car.

You'll find how many swirls you already have. Using an automatic car wash will ruin the paint and damage those delicate rubber seals (the S has a lot of them)

welcome to this board...

we promise not to shoot you here!!

the reason car washes are not popular here is that they are guaranteed swirl providers... and black shows swirls more than any other color -
and as indicated above the top seals are at risk in a car wash (my owners manual even says not to use car washes for this reason).

as above, find a local car wash that you spray yourself if you cant do this at home or at a friends house (probably if you supply products you can find someone to detail with at their house- i do this all the time)- if you use a wand sprayer, just be sure to keep a safe distance from the car.

btw, the new york club is pretty active and i have seen guys hook up on the board for detailing together. some small chance that another new yorker might see this thread and speak up, or better chance by posting in your local club (on this board).

if you need product ideas or have any other questions, post em up!!

Better to leave the car dirty than to wash it incorrectly. You can find someone with a hose.

Car wash is a no no.
