Default interesting fact about wax

This is really off the wall, but very strange..at least i think so.

I was eating a gummy peach ring, and then I started to read the ingredient list, and CARNAUBA WAX was a freakin ingredient!!!

Any nutritionist out there?

Joe

OK,now always make sure you dry yourself off with a Fieldcrest 100% cotton towel after a shower and you'll shine for months.

Pretty crazy, it's also an ingredient in Contac, the cold/flu medicine. I think it also contains Titanium Dioxide, whatever that is.

I've seen it on foods before (maybe used as a preservative)?

According to the Britannica Concise:

Very hard wax obtained from fronds of the carnauba tree, Copernicia cerifera, a fan palm of Brazil. During the regular dry seasons in Brazil, where it is called the tree of life, the carnauba palm protects its fanlike fronds from loss of moisture by secreting a coat of carnauba wax. Carnauba has been used in high-gloss polishes, phonograph records, and explosives. Synthetics have replaced it for many applications.

Explosives! Stay away frome Mexican food

A lot of candies also have shellac as well as fruit that comes from out of your area. You don't want to know where shellac comes from.

I work at a bar and i was told by someone that the preservative used in those jars of cherries and olives we used to garnish drinks contains formaldehyde. Aparrantly it is not harmful if taken in very small quantities as i'm sure is the same with caranauba wax.
