Default Jescar Powerlock + and Collinite 845 Combo

Getting ready to try and protect my CU2 TSX again. Last go around used some old crappy worn out Mother's wax. Really didn't want to go ceramic, as I'm a DIY type of guy (read: I'm Poor). Ordered both off of Amazon, and both came with microfibers which was nice!

Read tons of reviews on this combo, anyone else used this? Any tips, issues, rants, success?

For giggles, here was my last go around:

AFTER:

It's been my go-to combo for the last 2 years. Pretty hard to mess up, but wiping it off can be difficult if you apply too much. More is often less with these products. Also, make sure to liquefy the 845 prior to application (it's often solidified in room temperature). Have the bottle sit inside the car for 30 min. and it should liquefy well. If you live in a colder area, submerge 90% the bottle in a hot bucket of water and that should do it.

I do 1 coat of Power Lock and 2 coats of Collinite 845 (with a day of cure in between each coats). For my next application, I'm probably going to go with 2 coats of PL and 1 coat of 845.

I've used Collinite and it lasts months. I have Powerlock sitting in my closet till I do a full paint correction, but I learned of the combo from Matt Moreman of Obsessed Garage. He has several videos about them on Youtube and I agree with @trcydaman about being careful not to use too much Collinite 845.

Thanks for the tips!! Yeah I read about keeping the coats light, and I will definitely do 2 layers. Good call on warming it up, I read that somewhere too. Appreciate it!

Yeah I watched the videos from Obsessed Garage! Appreciate the response!

Starting on this next week. Wife is going on a cruise, so I'll have her car to drive while I take my time doing the correction and having more than enough cure time.

Np. The 845 tends to haze when exposed to sun even if you thoroughly wipe it down, but it goes away upon 1st wash. So don't freak out if you see hazing lol. But if you let it haze for too long, it may not go away completely even after washing (which is another reason why I'm gonna try 2 coats of the sealant and only 1 coat of 845).

I plan on washing/decon/clay/washing again. I have a whole week, while my wife is gone to work on it. So I'll just drive her car during the process to space it out. Do a little each day (read: after work).

Plus it will stay in the garage the whole time during the correction. Shouldn't take me anymore than 4 days, but I will do 2 coats of 845 over the course of 2 days to give adequate cure time.

Thanks for the pointers, and I do remember reading about 845 "sweating"

The Collinite does Sweat a bit and about 2 days after applying it usually looks hazy or oily and it's a good time to do a nice rinse to get that off.

I found it's best to let the Powerlock cure for about 4 hours or more then add the Collinite.

I usually throw the pair of them in a bucket of hot water to help them turn more liquidy and shake them like they owe me money.

One tip though is to put a Dawn Dish Soap squirting head on the Collinite bottle to make it easier to get it on an applicator.

I heard people like to use Beadmaker but the makers specifically mention in TheRagCompany's video it breaks down waxes like 845 and shouldn't be used as a drying aid with it.

I have a machine but I apply by hand using some foam hex applicators. Two different colors.

My process it to strip wash the car, wash it, blow dry it, dry it, then get a bucket of hot water for the Sealant and Wax to sit in for about 10mins in their bottle. I use a Dawn soap head on the Collinite top to squeeze liquid out.

Once it's hot and liquid I shake that stuff more than Shakira's hips during an earthquake. I apply the Sealant first. You just apply then move on. After you finish, have a beer if you are legal then you and "buff" this off and it comes off so smooth. You'll need to let it cure for about 4 hours or more. Then use a microfiber to buff it out. I also do the door jams with this and the headlights too

After that I load up another applicator with the wax. It doesn't need a lot. Like seriously, try to use as little as possible. A Dime size per panel and maybe 2 or 3 for a good/hardtop. I do about 2 panels at a time then go back once it starts to haze then buff it off. You may be doing just one panel then stretching a bit if you go slower.

After that, it's about 2-3 days of the car curing again and it will look oily and dust will stick to it like crazy. Rinse it off with water, blow it dry, then dry it with a microfiber and maybe some Hybrid Ceramic Wax as a drying aid. Humidity, heat, and air quality are factors but just plan on doing it.

After that it will look great especially on a colored car (sorry Silverstone and White cars). Black, I coat to avoid doing it as often since this doesn't look the best on Black but it does look deeper. If you car is Yellow/Red/Blue it's going to look much better than you think
