Default Layer it on...

Anyone interested in seeing if Zaino really makes a significant difference with a lot of coats?

I'm not talking 5-10 coats. I've got that now and, while pretty, I'm wondering what kind of depth and gloss we could really get... I'm talking 20-30 coats. There's got to be some diminishing point where more coats just won't make a visible difference, right?

Maybe I'm being stupid because it's 3.20am and I've been up for too long, but has anyone done this? I've got Silverstone covered if anyone else wants to play along... I've been planning on finding some free time during a weekend and stripping her down, buffing her to perfection and starting from scratch with a perfect base... Add three coats (pure Z2 Pro, since it'd be a perfect base, right? Use Z8 in between and on top) and three more the next day... Repeat for a few weekends until you've layered on 21-30 coats... Should take a month, if you only do weekends...

you are probably right...
i had over 30 last time i did a swirl removal.
and probably not much difference between #20 and #21, or any of the later ones- but thats not why i do it... i do it cause i like to, and its great therapy!

hi, my name is wanabe and i have been addicted to zaino for about 5 years now; prior to that i had a synthetic habit for several years and before that it was carnuba. i try and try to kick it, but no luck-

You know, I have this problem too. I decided it was better to dedicate my OCD to other people's cars and get paid for it

So, is there a significant difference from 5-10 coats and 20-25 coats?

I would say that you are wasting product (as well as your own time) after 5 or 6 coats. If you do it because you enjoy it, then that's cool. But if you're doing it in hopes of giving some added protection, it's a bit overkill. Of course, Sal Zaino would probably tell you that you could layer 10-20 coats before it actually doesn't matter. But he also collects $ for every layer you put down.

Secret,
You seem to have a personal dislike for Sal and/or Zaino... Not that I'm really high on him after my last two calls, but I'm curious as to what the root of your negative feelings are.

Sure, people are fanatical about Zaino and it has its shortcomings, but for what it is and what it does, it's a great product. Used on top of a perfected finish, it really does bring out the shine and depth - moreso with 3-6 coats than with one or two.

Just curious is all...

here are photos of my previous C5 with a minimum of 30 coats. Everyone knows GM paint is not the best in the world. Zaino gets the job done.
