Default least abrasive first?

I was reading on AG and people over there have mentioned that I should start with the least abrasive compound first on my list (Menzerna micro polish) then followed by a more abrasive product such as (menzerna intensivee polish) I was wondering how many of you actually follow this type of process because the way how I think about it is that as long as both are applied the outcome will still be the same??

You get a feel for how much "abrasive" you need by experience. IP has always been my "gauge" polish...after one pass I can see how much work the defect is going to need and move my agressiveness up or down by changing pad or polish.

Some are more conservative and use an even lighter abrasive as their gauge.
