I need some ideas... for my protege hehe, my last thread in another forum was hijacked, so I thought maybe you knowledgeable body people could help.
We are allowed to take our front liscense plates off, and the plate holder has 2 holes. Inside the hole there is a female end. Unfortunately I do not know the size of screw yet. I have looked at the parts stores, and the only thing I can find is trim panel plugs, which are black. What options can you suggest. Also, I will be after painting them to match the body colour. The mazda dealership has zero ideas.
I'm suprised the dealership had no ideas. I highly doubt all Proteges are shipped with a front license plate frame. You might try contacting a dealership in a state where front license plates aren't mandatory to see if they have plugs.
I have done some more investigating, regarding what other non front plate provinces do. The P5 bumper comes standard with out no plate bracket. There are to inny dimples on the bumper. When the car is PDI'd and a front plate is required the dealership drills the holes at the dimples. So, there are no plugs available. The alternative is aftermarket plugs or bondo and paint.
Here is an idea you may or may not like, but it is quick, easy, and cheap. Wal-Mart and auto parts stores in my area sell license plate screws that have a chrome cap that covers the screw head. This would leave your front bumper with two small chrome "dots" on it. If you don't like that look, the screw covers could be "roughed up" with fine sandpaper or coarse steel wool, primed, and painted to match the bumper.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say that "we are allowed to take our front plates off."
If you mean "Californians", you are incorrect. It is illegal to run without a front plate in California. It is an expensive ticket. I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars in the last seven years (two Z's, a Miata) and have been lucky enough not to get a ticket. So far so good. But if you run without a front plate in California, you are asking for a ticket...hope you skate by, as I agree that a front plate looks terrible, especially on our beautiful S2K's.
Canada.. and August 1st, in Saskatchewan, Canada, we are allowed to removed the front plate.
I am taking the advice of the plastic plugs, and have found some that will work. I am going to paint them and clear coat them. I am so excited
