Default Looking for scheduling advice

The last time I tried to do a full paint detail on my car, it took all weekend and I didn't even finish. When I say full paint detail, I mean wash, clay, polish (coarse and fine), wax/seal. Add to this the extra time to do wheels and tires properly, not to mention the top, the glass, mufflers, etc.

I guess the biggest issue is that once the car is washed, you want to do the other steps before taking it out.

How do you guys manage to get all the steps done without rushing or leaving the car undriven for days?

While I can appreciate the tongue-in-cheek wit of your response, I was hoping for advice I might be able to apply.

So what you're saying is that it really does just take a long time. Interesting...

I guess what I'm looking for are suggestions from people on how to work more efficiently, or perhaps ways to break the job up into muliple days.

Or maybe I'm just being too meticulous...

Youre not being too meticulous. In the world of detailing, I fail to see that there is such a symptom. With that being said, it does not sound like you're a pro, but moreso of a weekender who wants to enjoy a very clean car at the work of his own hands, which I applaud you for. However, once you detail your car a number of times (and maybe even some other people's), youll learn quicker, more efficient ways of doing things. So what Im trying to say is, as someone starting out and getting their feet wet in this endeavor, you're not alone. Just take your time, turn on some music, and enjoy the day, and your car.

Oh, Tom- Is it alright if I add this question onto my Detailing FAQ website? If youd like to review it, it's at www.detailingfaq.blogspot.com

Thanks,
Matt

It takes me 6 hours tops to do a full detail as you described on the s2k (interior included). It's a pretty small car, so I can't imagine why it would take you more than a full day? Are you polishing with a machine or by hand?
