^^ Wow I wonder if all they did is duplicate the magic eraser or just make it much finer grit?

^^^

This product is a high density foam which is only intended to agitate the Sonax cleaner.

Isn't there a warning on the packaging that says avoid contact with eyes and has a list of very mild chemicals that are in the eraser...

What chemicals in the Magic Eraser? It's a melamine foam. That's it. It is the 'chemical'. It cleans mechanically, not chemically. The box says not to eat it or use it on your body.

I know on my last car my detailer would use a Magic Eraser whenever I would get it detailed. That being said, I am still kinda worried about the long term effects of using one on my S2K seats now. Anyone have any long term usage experiences with the Magic Eraser on leather seats?

Abbreviated from another post.

Magic Erasers...acts as a very fine sandpaper.

It works by removing the top layer of the finish on the leather which will remove the shine but it is also removing the colour (meaning some of the finish material).

This is fine during a full restoration process as you will be refinishing over the top but not ok as a cleaning process.

Leaving the leather unfinished will leave the leather itself open to dirt and body oils which will start to deteriorate the leather itself.

The magic eraser is not taking the leather back to its new state but is degrading it.

Yupp its great. I used to use it quite often, but not so much anymore. It is almost like a sandpaper and takes the top layer off, which usually is dirty and grime on the surface. Make sure you condition your leather after you are done cleaning, or else it will be very dry and might crack.

I now steam clean leather, or just used normal leather cleaner or even dish washing soap sometimes, followed by the best conditoner I can find. Conditioning it is the important part.

I used it on my 92 vigor 94 e34 5 series and my 04 TL and it helps clean really gunked on crap. It's much more noticeable if you do it on a tan or gray leather interior.
