I don't understand. You're saying that you top has turned a whitish color from sitting in the sun? I don't know but I wouldn't paint my top! Try cleaning it with a good PVC top cleaner first off and go from there.

dont paint it...
i would first try something like the 303 or vinylex. not sure if that will work, but a good first step. (and its what you will need to keep it black for the future anyway).
there are "re-black" products for rubber, which i have used- but i have never used them on vinyl. so i dont know if they would work.
but again, my first try would be vinylex or 303.

Don't know for sure if this will help discoloration, but I swear by Wolfenstein's Ragg Topp cleaner and protectant. I put mine on my car new (so no need for cleaner) but the stuff works GREAT! You spray the top until it foams, then brush the foam in and let dry (about 24 hours). I live in the hottest, dryest part of the US (Arizona) and I've only had to apply this twice since buying my car a year ago (once a year). Great for repelling rain but MOST IMPORTANTLY great UV protection against fading.

The cleaner is supposed to restore weathered tops. I recommended it to a co-worker for his 1962 Jaguar and he was VERY PLEASED with the results. I'd suggest giving it a try before considering re-dying the top. The two products can be found all over the internet (just do a search for "Ragg Topp").

Best of luck,

I use Porsche Cabriolet Soft Top kit conditioner spray and it does wonders for any one I apply it for. IMO works better than the 303 stuff but of course double the price. Attained at any Porsche dealership

William - interesting.. but in a direct bird "poop" cleaning test the the Porsche stuff beat the 303 stuff hands down and that is why I continue to use it. Furthermore, it conditioning spray truly allows my softop "to bead" a lot more than the 303.

but diff strokes for diff folks
