nanotech application
im a vendor out here in VA doing autobody for various dealerships. another competitor try to sell me some kind of nano tech application all you do is spray on and wipe of and it creates a layer on top of the clear coat not allowing dirt to stick to it. he said all you have to do is spray it off with the hose and its clean. anybody heard of it. does it really work like its advertised? he said it only has to be treated once for 2 years? anybody else call bs? or can someone explain....

Well, c'mon, if it's nanotechnology it must be better than anything yet invented, right?
Well...see, the whole concept of nanotechnology is the ability to create and manipulate things on the molecular scale -- that is, to make new things (out of atoms and little bitty molecules) that are the size of big molecules.
Some of these nanotech applications involve metallic dots the size of a few atoms stuck together, and some are somewhat bigger, almost like tiny machines. They're all discreet things, though (that is, not liquids), and you don't want them on your car's finish because they're not soft and malleable like wax is.
And consider wax: it's a complex hydrocarbon molecule, an example of "natural" nanotechnology in some sense. And for protecting a car's finish, it's a pretty good bet.
I'm thinking this new thing isn't, at least not without a lot more information.

looks to me like the answer is pretty clear above...
and thanks for posting up the question!
my only addition to the above is that the average person would not know the diff between this stuff and the spray on wax in the car wash that they take their car to (and very few folks who visit this forum would do that).
the problem, in my mind, is that the stuff is relatively expensive- what you get is not waxing for a couple of years? and by then the car would be so badly swirled that those of us enthusiasts would have already done a complete swirl removal. and a complete swirl removal removes everything except paint and clear coat (including the expensive stuff)!!
so, in short, any swirl removal or other polishing would remove the product that is there for protection.
with a wax or synthetic polymer, we expect to remove and replace them periodically-
in theory these products sound good- but in practice they really do not give your customer any value, imo.

Just a money making venture for you, the dealership and the guy selling "nanotechnology"
