Default Need Abrasive Polish Recommendations

What does eveveryone like for polishing with a PC 7424 that is one step more abrasive than swirl removers? I tried 3M Rubbing Compound that supposedly removes 1200 grit sandpaper scratches but it was a horrible product to use. When I buffed the polish off my paint it scratched the hell out of my clearcoat -- scratches so deep in one spot that the next step of polish could not remove them. Grr.

Any great polishes out there? I was thinking of trying Menzerna Intensive Polish. Anyone use that one on their S2000?

Actually, I used and hated 3M Fine Cut Compound:

wow, fine cut is one of my favs!!
are you sure that the scratches were from the polish (not your pads, for example)?
mezerna is also a good choice (its like a medium cut- their power gloss is the heavy duty one), but have not used it on the s2000
sonus sfx-1 would also be on my list, as would einszett. just did my beater van with the 1z and a paint cleaner. restored it to new!

Well, I had really bad results with it. I spent three hours on the hood and left front fender alone and it did not remove the scratches. I ended up just doing the whole car with 3M swirl remover after that and applying a coat of Wolfgang.

I found that the Fine Cut shed dust everywhere, didn't remove my swirls after three passes, and then left scratches when I tried to clean it up. Maybe my polish was defective. I'm head over heals in love with their SMR so I was very suprised to have so much trouble with the Fine Cut.

Every towel and pad I used was brand new, straight out of the plastic wrap and onto my car.

I used the menzerna intensive on my 1500 grit scuffs and it worked great. It took up to 10 complete applications to get rid of some of the scuff marks. It took the swirls out on one pass.

I think I'll try again in a couple weekends with Menzerna Intensive Polish (I definitely don't have scratches like you did, thetz99!) and a different pad. I used a Porter Cable brand pad which doesn't seem as nice as the ones from Sonus or Lake County.

i wonder if it was the pads.
if you have a beater car, try it again on a small area with a good pad (i like to test below the center line on side panels).
even if its old i dont think the fcc should be scratching...
you got me on this one!! (the pads are the most likely problem)

My two go to products are Meg's #83 DACP and 3M Perfect-It III RC. It is different than the Fine-Cut. Beyond that and you'll need a rotary.
