Default new discovery!

one of my fav things about detailing is discovering new processes...

most of you know that i was one of the first to "sandwich" synthetics and carnubas. i had been using finish first on a show cj for awhile. needed a way to reduce dust on the jeep, so began to use carnubas over the synthetic- worked great and the shine was even better.
when sal zaino announced his new product (zaino), i asked him about sandwiching. he told me not to bother- it wouldnt work.
of course, that just meant i really had to try it!
got my s2000 about that time and found out that another member (boiler) was using finish first also. we experimented with carnubas over finish first on our cars and agreed that it was even better than the shine of the synthetic. so i went for p21s over zaino, and the results were the same as with finish first.
until today, i have always buffed out the z2 before waxing the car.
today, while working on the wheels, i wondered what would happen if i just put p21s over the zaino after it was cured, and then removed them both-
tried it and i have a new method!

p21s over z2 without removing the z2 first:

Looks perfect....What do you notice different between your two methods of application.

I've been adding layers of sealant (BF) on top of various carnubas this week to see what the effects and now I'm wondering if this step might add something new to the mix so to speak. I wonder you can add a layer Zaino on top of your P21S? Have you tried this before?

Normally synthetic sealants don't like bonding to a waxed surface. Short rule of thumb: apply synthetics on top of a clean surface or synthetics and apply carnaubas over a clean surface, synthetics, or carnaubas.

i find that synthetics are fine over carnubas if the carnuba has evaporated off a fair amount... at least a week, and longer is better. you could experiment with this, but it makes sense to me that the synthetic over carnuba would not last as long since it is binding to a carnuba which does not last long. when we put carnuba over synthetic, the product that will evaporate first is facing the air.

the main thing that i noticed different is that its one less step! (remove once instead of twice)- the shine seems better, but it is a matter of degree and its prob in my head. the main thing is that the shine is not less, for sure. which tells me that we can skip the syntethic removal step (at least we can with zaino under p21s)-
what i am wondering is how this would do with a carnuba that needs to cure on the car (p21s is an apply and remove immediately wax). i would guess that it still would work, but it might be harder to control the product going on. worst case, a machine removal would take care of this.
