Default NXT Problem?

I'm not sure if this is a problem with me being naive or something else.

Here is what I purchased today:

NXT Tech Wax
Mother's Gold Clay Bar
Dawn Dishwashing soap
6 Terry Towels

I washed with the dawn first.

Then I used the clay bar (with the quick detailer)

Everything was fine, then I put the NXT Tech Wax on with the foam applicator and let is set for 20 minutes. Then I took the brand new Terry towerls and buffed out the wax.

I assumed everything was going fine, and then my wife pointed out to me that paint looked blotchy. Upon closer inspection I noticed that it was really blotchy and tried to buff it out and all it did was smear the blotchiness.

It seemed that I could not get off the Tech Wax completely.

Then used the quick detailer on the car and it seemed to remove the wax, but the shine wasn't as good or wet looking as in places where it was blotchy.

Am I supposed to wash the car again after the tech wax?

This if the first time I have ever waxed a car so I'm probably doing a lot of things wrong, any help is appreciated.

Also, some blotchiness remained even after using the quick detailer.

Sounds to me like you put the wax on too thick and it didn't dry completely... or the car was too hot (you did it in the shade, right)? Did you wash the car again *after* you clayed? I find that this helps to clean off any clay or QD residue.

With the wax, you want the thinnest film possible, making sure to cover all painted areas. I find that with the paste wax (haven't used the liquid) if i lay down a thin coat then go over that area with the applicator with very very little pressure, it helps to thin it even more.

I've waited as long as an hour with some sealants to make sure that they're good and dry and ready to buff.

Typically, I do not use clay lube when I clay. I will use a dilute solution of Car Wash Liquid and water as my clay lubricant which keeps me fraom have to rewash the car after I clay ... just clay and rinse.

You have to apply your waxes thin .... If you can't master this with a hand applicator try using a PC.

Lastly, You did not say whether you used NXT paste or liquid wax. I have no experience with the paste wax (and never will) but have had similar issues with the liquid (I call it streaking as oppose to blotchiness) Making sure the car is cool and dry and that apply it thin and make sure it NXT is dry before removing.

Since I was not crazy about the look, ease of use, or durability of NXT (relative to other products), I no longer use it

I am using the liquid NXT. The car was in the shade yesterday, but it was hot and I had just driven it an hour prior so that could be the reason. I'll try it again this morning with it in the garage and nice and cool.

Thanks guys.

You have to try the paste, it's works very well. I have had no problems removing it, great over the counter wax. I do use #7 Show Car Glaze first then top with NXT. I had the clumping problem applying it the first time around. I was using WAY too much, and ditch their applicator pad, use your own.

The supplied applicator is worthless. It is two foam peices fused together. Get a 1 peice foam disc or better yet the foam ones with the built-in handle. I was applying the paste too heavy but it was because it was hard to get the product out of the can and on to the applicator. I was thinking of wetting the disc first but it does not say to do so on the instructions.

I know what you're saying about the cloudiness. But I have discovered that with other waxes and it doesn't really bother me.

I had the same problem with NXT liquid wax using a real wax pad. When I removed the wax, it looked like crap. I thought maybe it was me... good thread. I am now looking for a newer and better wax. I've used Meg's other stuff in the past and was surprised.

For the record, I had the same problem on 2 different cars - a 91 Miata and a 02 TL.

I've heard a lot of problems with the liquid... That's why I've never used it. Found the paste to work rather well, in terms of application/removal.

You could always pick up some #26 or #16 (PakShak has a limited quantity left!), or other traditional wax (p21s, souvern). I've also heard good things about the Vanilla Moose line, but can't speak from experience on that. Meguiars does also make other synthetic sealants like #20 (or was it 21?).

Try not to use terry clothes either. There is nothing better then micor fiber towels. They are a lot softer then terry clothes. With the spray wax, do not leave on the car for 20mintues and deff do not put on when the car is hot or in direct sunlight. It will leave little spots on the car.

Take this as an example:

Wash the car, wipe down until car is dry. (duh!) Then take the srapy wax and do it one section at a time. Spray the hood down with the wax (spraying about 1foot away) and then with a micro fiber (nothing else) make circular motion (swirls) wherever you put the wax. Then with another micro fiber, wipe the rest off and wipe smooth. Do that for the rest of the car.

I found that the best way to do a "quick" wax to my car. If I wash the car and it doesn't need the wax, I just spray on quick detailer which is the same thing as the wax and it makes it smooth.

The NXT paste is better IMO. It's harder to put on but easier at the same time. With the paste, you put on the applicator and swirl one section at a time and leave on until it haze's over. Take a micro fiber and do the same swirl motions to take it off and then wipe clean with another micro fiber.

The steps may take a little longer, but it's worth it.
