Default PC advice/help needed

Being obsessed with the look of my car and its protection, I've decided to purchase the mighty 7424. I've seen it all over the place, but I just want something that will get me started on the right foot. I've come across this package in my searching, and it seems to be right for me.

I'd like to know from those of you (wanabe, et. al) if this is the correct kit to get me started. I'm most concerned about the pads and bonnets included. Here are some things to consider that may affect your response:

1. My car is Berlina Black...which means it has swirls in it.
2. The paint imperfections are VERY minor - nothing deep enough to cut into the color coat.
3. No matter what I start off with, I'm going to finish with Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax. Every year for Xmas someone gets me a bottle of it, so I've got like 4-5 bottles of the stuff. I'm not going to buy anything until they're gone.

Other than that, it's pretty much wide open. I'd like to know if the pads included in the kit are all going to be used when I detail? I plan on using the cutting pad as a backer for the buffing bonnets as per their recommendation. Other than that, I'm interested to hear your comments and recommendations. Many thanks for the assistance.

7424 Ultimate Detail Kit

PS - I want to buy it from these guys because I have a 10% off coupon, and I also like the 'monkey tail' they include with the kit.

I bought a similar kit from Proper Auto Care, but mine just had the pads. I have to say I really am not very happy with these pads. Since then I've bought some Wolfgang pads (ironically made by the same company as the other pads) which I think are a little nicer and some Meguiar's pads which I like better than either of the other two.

Next, I'd like to try the Edge 2000 pads. I've heard a lot of good things about them and I like that they're two sided. The self centering feature is nice and they have a large variety of pads available.

Also, as others have said you can save a few bucks by buying a PC 7336SP (exact same thing as a 7424) at your local Lowe's and then buying pads and a backing plate on-line.

Lastly, if you're concerned about getting 10% I have coupon codes to several car care sites which will get you at least 10% off. Proper Auto usually is more expensive than other sites anyway.

I was going to mention that when you replied to my pads post a while back. Lake Country mfg makes both of those... so I just assumed they were the same. How are the wolfgang ones nicer?

Since noone responded besides you about the edge 2k pads I figured I'd give them a test run =). Plus I really liked the 2 sided thing. Lets me use poorboys 2.5 on one side and 1 on other then use the blue for AIO. I was going to give it a go this sat, but looks like it's going to rain

I'll definately let you know how the edge pads work out, but since I have never used the CP LC or wolfgang or meguiars.... I think you might still need to pick yourself up a set since you're not nearby. I didn't even think about the cleaning aspect... you're right that would save alot of time.

I read in a corvette forum where they seemed to love those meguiar pads. relatively cheap and efficient...

I got PC from Lowe's and 4 Propel pads and backing plate from Excel for a total of $165. I also got a pair of their 5.5 in. Excel Microfiber Finger Applicator pads for $2.99 which I really liked.

Here's what I did...got this kit for $149.99, and added the missing components of the full Sonus kit, (2 pads and bonnet) for another $30.00. So that's about $180.00 which is $20.00 less than the full kit plus you get a bottle of sfx2 polish for free this way. Use coupon code "freeship" or "shipfree" (I can't remember which it is) for free shipping...or you can sign up for the Autopia forum and you'll get an email for a one time use 10% off coupon.

Thats comes to about the same as a 7336 from Lowes and then adding a pad/backplate kit. But you can do it all at once without leaving your house.

Never had a problem with any of my Lake County pads (I have 10-15 of them) and some of mine are OLD.

That appears to be a good kit, but there are cheaper alternatives. I bought a different kit from them which only included pads (and backing plate). They were LC pads and I've had good results with them. The kit included the red finishing pad, two white polishing pads, and an orange power pad. In the kit you've linked to there isn't an orange pad. It's not a full-out compounding pad, but it'll allow you to tackle some heavier swirling/scratches that the polishing pad won't quite get. You may be thinking that your swirling isn't extreme enough to warrant it, but sometime in the future you may get a deeper scratch and then you'll wish you had something more than just a mild polishing pad. That was my line of thinking, anyways, when I was buying pads.

I bought my pc from Lowes too, like many others have. I was fortunate in that it was on sale, and I had a 10% off coupon, so I ended up only paying $90 for it.
