Default Polish before Menzerna FMJ

Usually each year around this time I buff out my 2001 Spa Yellow S2000. I use Menzerna products. Intensive Polish, Final Polish, Glaze, FMJ (multiple coats then finally Meguires #26 wax. This year however I just went thru that same process with my new daily driver, a 2001 BMW 330i and I just don't have the time (8 hours or so) or energy to do it all over again to my S2000. My question is if I wash my Honda with Dawn then claybar it can I apply glaze, then FMJ, then wax. The paints in good shape I just don't think that there's much to be gained shine wise polishing the car at this time.

Try wash and wax forum. Lots of good info and help there. Click on the little icon in my signature with the smiley cleaning the car.

first off, welcome to our forum!!!

as with any synthetic, fmj prefers to be next to the clear coat (nothing under it)... polishing helps with this.
clay will also help remove any old wax on the car.

do not know about a glaze then the fmj... but, hey we love experiements here!! worst case would be that the fmj wont adhere well.

maybe someone here has tried a glaze before fmj--- ??

I haven't tried a glaze under FMJ yet, but from everything I've read, it will definitely weaken FMJ's durability.

I just did FMJ over a glaze 2 days ago on my 330i. It looks great. I used Menzerna Glaze, waited a day then put on 2 coats (in 2 days) of FMJ followed by a coat of #26 on day 3. I just want to know if I Dawn then clayber, all I'll have left is residual Zaino from last year. Rather than buffing down to clearcoat, I'd like to layer some FMJ over last years Zaino.

if you dawn, all you have left probably is your clearcoat... and dried out rubber!!
(can you tell that i dont like dawn? o.k., have used it, but i try not to- and the cure for rubber that dawn gets on is shin-etsu grease)

I always thought that Dawn was a recommended detergent when you want to strip off old wax. I know it's harsh. What else is recommended.I only use it when I plan to buff out the entire car.

Let's quit spreading that old wives tale already.

Menzerna sells a "Finishing Touch" glaze; one would expect that FMJ would adhere to at least this one. I've used both on the wife's car and been satisfied with the results.
