lowes was selling them for anywhere from $80 to $120 or so... they might be discontinuing them- if so, plan to pay more than that-

the machine began life as a sander... it was discovered several years ago that it made a great polisher and so began a new era for the machine!
i got mine from a tool supplier (coastal tools) many years ago.

there really is only one model and most auto detail sites carry the machine- will post one back in a few-

you will need decent pads for it. i like lake country, and have just gotten the edge pads that mikeyc loves so much. you can pay as much for the pads as you pay for the machine- but dont!!! you only need a couple pads to start out- a non-aggressive pad for applying products and a slightly aggressive pad for swirl removal.

i promise that you gonna have lotsa questions- and thats what we are here for!

Guys in New England have told me that they've gotten them as low as $60 at Lowe's. They're on clearance as wanabe mentioned. I haven't heard that the machine is being discontinued. I just think Lowe's is not going to be selling it anymore.

Be aware... It's the Porter Cable 7336 or 7336SP if it's at Lowe's.

No worries... It's the exact same machine as the 7424.

Got mine from Lowe's!

Regardless of price, you will LOVE this machine! I am still just so in love with it after using it for the first time. It pays for itself just by the results it produces!

It definitely kicks butt. Ive had one that I used on my integra for a few years. It will get out some pretty nice scratches. I will say however that its probably better to go slower at first until you are comfortable using it.

At the highest speed it can still burn through the paint. I tried it on an old vehicle just to see and with the right pads you can burn through it.

I like the Sonus Pads. You can get those at Autopia.

I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but I'm continually seeing how people (especially wanabe) are always helping out new people and answering questions even though they've been asked numerous times. IMO this is how I think Wash & Wax separates itself from the other sections I visit, and it's why I always enjoy my time here the most.

.....Then again this doesn't get as much traffic as say, S2000 Talk, since W&W doesn't fill up its first page in a matter of 1 day.

Is it necessary to get the 6 inch PC or would the five inch model work. I saw a PC 7335, which is the five inch model for sale but I did not want to the plunge unless I knew it would work with all the pads that you guys are using. Thanks in advance for your help.

After looking up the specs for the 7335, it is the exact same machine as the 7336 and 7424, just with different accessories and counterweight (5" just like the 7424). All models use a 3.7A machine that opeates from 2500-6000 OPM. What separates the different models are what's included in the package.

7424 - 6" white polishing pad - 5" counterweight
7336 - 6" sanding disc - 6" counterweight
7336SP - 6" sanding disc + 6" white polishing pad - 6" counterweight
7335 - 5" sanding disc - 5" counterweight

I say get your hands on the one you can obtain the easiest/cheapest. The 7336 is your safest bet since it has the 6" counterweight, but many detailers use the 7424 with the included 5" and have no problems.
